About the project
The idea behind the NobelST project was to organise guest lectures in Split by Nobel prize winners. Goal of this project is to popularise modern science and to make current scientific subjects more available to the citizens, students and scientists of Split as well as to promote the city of Split among the contemporary intellectual elite - Nobel prize laureates.
This project aims to entice the advancement of science in our area with aspirations to play a significant role in pushing the borders of ignorance away from our world. It wants to show science as an activity that makes our world a safer, more comfortable and more beautiful place to live. Science will be presented to the citizens of Split as the most intellectually challenging and extremely exciting human activity. As the organiser of this project, City of Split, in association with the MediLS institute and the Universities of Split wishes to promote the highest intellectual values in these times when they are being systematically ignored.
Through the NobelST project, Nobel Prize laureates from various disciplines will visit Split. Their visits are organised twice a year (in extraordinary situations even three times a year), during autumn and summer semester (in order to avoid the summer breaks and exam periods in the University). Optimal duration of Scientists’ stay in Split is two days.
Each Nobel Prize laureate’s visit is organised in three segments:
1. Public lecture – main theme selection is tailored to suit the general public, open admittance to all lectures,
2. Press – Audience with the Mayor of Split and reception with the members of the press,
3. Lunch with students – selected students are awarded with an informal luncheon with the Nobel Prize winner.
